Use laid-down rules to address grievances – Veep to Police

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has admonished police personnel to use internal structures in addressing their grievances.

He said personnel should respect their own rules and regulations, particularly by staying within the command structure in handling their grievances. “Remember, you cannot find a solution if you discuss your work-related grievances in a “chop bar” or at a friend’s party when even the door to the office of the chairman of the Police Council is always open,” he added.

He gave the advice at the 52nd cadet officers’ graduation parade at Tesano in Accra yesterday at which 344 officers comprising 260 males and 84 females graduated after six months training. The newly commissioned officers are now Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs).

Present were the Minister for the Interior, Mr Ambrose Dery; Minister of Defence, Mr Dominic Nitiwul; Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, members of the Police Management Board, heads of security agencies, retired IGPs, senior police officers, retired officers, traditional rulers, family and friends.

He urged the personnel to work hard to maintain and improve the standards set by their predecessors to enhance safety and security for socio-economic development of our communities.

“Fostering a culture based on these principles is not just a preference for the Ghana Police; it is a necessity to uphold public trust and respect,” he added.

The Vice President assured of the government’s commitment in resourcing the Police Service to enable it continue to play its constitutional role of maintaining law and order, for all citizens to go about their businesses without let or hindrance.

He said the “centrality of law enforcement” as pivotal driver for politico-socio-economic development and progress in contemporary times could not be over-emphasised.

He said the government continues to support the decentralisation efforts of the Formed Police Unit (FPU) across the country, adding that so far over 122 bases have been established across the country.

He commended the Police Service for its strides in leveraging on the ongoing government digitisation and digitalisation agenda to strengthen the Police reforms initiatives to meet contemporary policing aspirations and improve law enforcement service deliver

The overall best cadet award was presented to Frank Kwaku Fialor, Johnson Adusei Poku was presented with best in Basic Fitness, Sarah Marfo received the best in field mission planning and analysis, best in criminal investigations was presented to Abraham Jatuat and best in marksman award was presented to Noah Kwame Akortse.

The other awards were presented to Daniel Komla Bettey, for best in management and administration, best in practical award was presented to Suleman Yusif, Commandant Special award was presented to Grace Azure Awilumbono, best in drill award was presented to Jordan Ashitey and exemplary leadership award was presented to Frema Amartey Wiredu.
