Akuapem North Assembly inaugurates newly elected members

The Akuapem North Municipal Assembly has inaugurated some 32 Elected Assembly Members and 16 Government appointees elected to the Municipality.

The Ceremony took place at the Municipal Assembly Hall, with all the Assembly Members present.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Barima Awuah Sarpong Asiedu-Larbi, congratulated the Assembly members for the confidence entrusted to them by their constituents to represent them.

He urged Members to put their political and self-interest aside to discharge their duties and assured of management support to ensure the implementation of developmental projects within the Municipality.

He told the Members that their responsibilities are outlined in section 16 (1) of the Local Governance Act 2016, Act 936 so he appealed to Assembly Members to work closely with their unit committee members to boost development.

The Member of Parliament for the area, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah Adjei, seized the opportunity to call on the elected Assembly members to ensure that they collaborate with the Assembly and their communities.

Speaking on behalf of the President, Dr. Kojo Essiem Mensah Abrampah, congratulated all elected assembly and unit committee members for their success in the recent district level elections.

However, he acknowledged that despite decades of decentralization efforts, there is still a tendency among citizens to look towards Accra for solutions to local issues. She urged assembly members to change this status by actively engaging with their constituents and delivering basic public services at the local level.

Dr. Essiem also highlighted the government's focus on improving the mobilization of internally generated funds (IGFs) for district development. He urged assembly members to work together to create innovative ways of mobilizing resources within their areas.

Furthermore, he addressed leadership challenges at the district level, noting the importance of maintaining close contact with electoral areas and consulting constituents on development issues. She highlighted efforts to address resource constraints and announced upcoming orientation and training programmes to enhance assembly members' competence.
