Ningo-Prampram plants 2000 seedlings to mark Green Ghana

The Ningo-Prampram District Assembly has planted 2,000 tree seedlings of different species, in commemoration of the 2023 Green Ghana initiative.

The species included Mahogany, Militia Cacia, Flamboyant, Montalis, Royal Palm, Red Sandalwood, and Albizia Lebeck.

The seedlings were distributed among schools, traditional leaders, faith-based organisations, Assembly members, and residents, to be planted in their localities.

Green Ghana Day was launched in 2021 by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and aimed at restoring the fast-eroding forest cover of the country, through aggressive national afforestation and reforestation.

Mr. Al-Latif Tetteh Amanor, the District Chief Executive Officer of Ningo-Prampram, together with other dignitaries, planted some of the seedlings in the Vakpor community to officially mark the day in the district.

Mr. Amanor thanked the chiefs and the community members of Vakpor for embracing the Green Ghana initiative, adding that the Assembly was poised to protect villages in the district by promoting their agricultural activities and preserving their natural resources.

Mr. Solomon Djangmah, the Presiding Member and Assembly Member for Vakpor community, thanked the Assembly for choosing the community to host the planting exercise and urged residents, especially schoolchildren, to cultivate the habit of caring for the plants to ensure their sustainability.
