Bono East Regional DVLA office inaugurated in Techiman

The Minister of Transport, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, on Thursday inaugurated a new office complex for the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority ((DVLA) in Techiman of the Bono East Region.

The new office complex, which will now serve as the regional office for the DVLA, consists of 15 offices and two bays with a large compound which can accommodate over 50 cars at a go.

Since 2004, the Techiman DVLA was operating in the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU)’s building until now, posing many inconveniences to both staff and clients of DVLA in the town.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Mr Asiamah said the new Regional DVLA office in Techiman marked the beginning of a new era of modernising all regional offices across the country.

This, he said, was part of its transformation agenda, as a number of its existing offices are being modernised to improve service delivery to its clients.

To ensure safety of vehicles and promotion of good driving standards in the country, the institution, he noted, had introduced “cutting-edge technologies” to enhance the process of issuing driver licences and vehicle registrations system. This, he said, included the online vehicle registration system (VRS) to deal with the bureaucratic delays associated with the manual registration process.

The new system, he noted, enhanced security and eliminated identity theft and false representation because it was fully assimilated with the Integrated Customs Management (ICUMS) and the National Identification Authority databases.

The Minister urged the management of the Techiman DVLA office to ensure that customer concerns were not only heard, but acted on promptly to boost the image and service delivery of the Institution.

The Chief Executive Officer of DVLA, Mr Kwasi Agyeman Busia, said since 2017, the Authority had embarked on the construction of more office accommodation to enhance efficiency of DVLA services across the country.

The completion of offices in Koforidua, Takoradi and Cape Coast; Denu and Akatsi in the Volta Region, and Obuasi in the Ashanti Region, among others, had impacted service delivery in those areas of operations.

He announced that by the second quarter of this year, construction of new offices would begin in Wenchi, Damango and Dambai, while Sewfi Wiawso and Goaso offices would be upgraded.

This, he also said, demonstrated their commitment to serving their clients and ensuring their services were brought closer to the door step of the people.

The Chief Executive, on behalf of the board and management of DVLA, commended the Chief of Hansua, Nana Apenteng Fosu Gyeabour, for making land available for the construction of the new office complex.

He urged the staff and management of the facility to take good care of it in order to ensure its longevity. On his part, Nana Apenteng Fosu Gyeabour commended the government for ensuring development in the Techiman area.
