This follows a successful community engagement forum with stakeholders and opinion leaders over the construction of the one-storey CHPS compound for the area.

The facility, which is first of its kind in the municipality, has sections such as an Outpatient Department, Dispensary, Laboratories, Wards, Pharmacy, Stores, nurses bungalows among others.

Municipal Chief Executive of the area, Sandra Owusu Ahenkorah, who was speaking in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com, said the assembly had already secured funding for the project with work expected to complete within six months.

She therefore called for support from the community to help complete the project to save lives as its completion would directly contribute to reducing preventable death in the community.

The Municipal Health Director, Dr. Louisa Ademki Matey lauded the assembly for the proposed CHPs Compound stressing that the facility would help provide health care service and help the country meet the SDG goal 3.

According to her the facility would provide services such as health education related to prevailing health problems and the methods of preventing and controlling them, promotion of food supply and proper nutrition, improving physical wellbeing and personal hygiene, maternal, new born and child health care including antenatal and post-natal care as well as family planning and immunization services when the project is completed and handed over for use.

On her part, Madam Esther Boateng, Assembly member for Santana Electoral Area was optimistic that the project would improve access to healthcare in the area.

“We know that many people in our municipality seek health care at nearby government facilities such as Maamobi General Hospital and Achimota Hospital but this will help reduce the stress our people are going through.

Meanwhile, when completed the CHPS compound would be the first solely owned government health care facility compared to 32 health facilities that are largely private health facilities operating in the municipality.
