Floods displace over 2000 people in Pru East
More than 2000 people in 15 communities in the Pru East District have been displaced following the spillage of the Bagri Dam and torrential rains in the area.

Mr. Awudi Godwin, Assemblyman for Traditional Council Electoral Area told Ghanadistricts.com in an interview that the flooding started about two months ago and continued to spread to other areas displacing the people and destroying several properties.

Communities affected include Fantiekura, Pentecost Nsuano, Adiembra no.3,Vutidekey, Agorkope, part of Tonka, part of Tokobikope, Dzatakpo, Ezukope, part of Brekentey, Atta – Kumah, Avorkope, C.K kope, part of Accra town, David kope among others.

Also, Fantiekura D/A Primary School, Vutidekey D/A Primary schools are submerged and roads leading to Kadue D/A Primary and Brekentey D/A Primary are flooded.

The Assemblyman indicated that chiefs and the elders in the area have allocated land on higher grounds to the District Assembly to relocate the affected communities to prevent further destruction or loss of lives; adding that the Member of Parliament for the area Mr. Kwabena Donkor has also distributed relief items worth 50,000 Ghana cedis to the victims.

He disclosed that the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) is set to distribute some relief items today following their visit yesterday.

Mr. Awudi, therefore, called on philanthropists to come to support them with some relief items since the people had lost all their belongings and livelihood.
