Peki Union of North America donates to Ghana Education Service

Peki Union of North America (PUNA) has donated some educational materials to the Ghana Education Service in the South Dayi District of the Volta region to support quality education within the Peki Traditional Area.

The items included sixteen 40-inch flat-screen television sets 16 pen drives loaded with educational materials and a wall mount to be distributed to 16 kindergarten schools within the area.

The local committee of the Union presented the items to Deiga Kwadzo Dei XII, Paramount Chief of Peki Traditional Area, who handed them over to the South Dayi District Educational Directorate.

The beneficiary basic schools included Peki-- Blengo E.P, Peki-Dzogbati D.A, Peki-Avetile E.P, GOVCO Demonstration, Sanga, Tsiyinu, Peki- Agbate, Peki-Wudome E.P, Peki-Tsame, Peki-Adzokoe E.P, and R.C and Peki-Dzake.

Mr. Kennedy Edem Amoako, Local Secretary of the Union, delivering a speech on behalf of PUNA, noted that they were committed to supporting quality education in the area.

He said the Union believed that once the pupils received quality and strong educational foundation, they would be able to perform creditably at the higher levels and this would position them well to contribute to societal development.

Mr. Amoako disclosed that the Union's resolve to improve the performance of the pupils at the basic level in the area led to the formation of two basic educational committees, one in the USA and the other at Peki.

The local committee, he said, was tasked to perform needs assessment for the basic schools in collaboration with stakeholders and to make appropriate recommendations that would help address the issues and improve performance.

He said during the assessment some challenges were discovered which included insufficient school infrastructure, lack of funds for in-service training of the teachers and inadequate teaching and learning materials.

Mr. Amoako said the local committee submitted its findings and recommendations to PUNA and the Union upon receipt of the findings decided to implement a five-year educational project to improve education at the basic level within the area.

The five-year project, he said, included the provision of teaching and learning materials, procurement of furniture, procurement of computers and its accessories, and in-service training for teachers.

It also included community engagement to sensitize parents on their role in their children's education and the needed educational support they are to offer to their children.

Deiga Kwadzo Dei XII, Paramount Chief of Peki Traditional Area, lamented the decline in the performance of pupils in the area and called on citizens of Peki, both home and abroad to come together to address the situation.

He underscored the need to leverage technology to enhance teaching and learning and commended PUNA for the gesture.

Reverend Gershon Agbo, Public Relations Officer of South Dayi District Educational Directorate, on behalf of the District Director of Education, commended the Union and appealed that similar support be extended to other schools in the district.

Mr. Godwin Kwame Dadzawa, District Chief Executive for South Dayi, also appealed to all stakeholders to collaborate to address educational issues in the area to enable Peki to regain its lost glory in education.
