Birim Central Assembly invests more to improve quality health delivery

Quality Health delivery forms an integral part of every society with the vision of growth and development; and in doing so the focus must be all encompassing to focus on the public as well as the service providers (health professionals).

It is for this reason that the Birim Central Assembly has been making some critical investments in the sector.

Speaking with Ghanadistricts.com, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Birim Central Assembly Madam Victoria Adu said she believes so much in the health sector and therefore has embarked on a number of health infrastructure improvements within the Municipality.

A visible example is the construction of a new Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) centre at Community 2 to replace the old health centre at the Akim Oda Quarters which used to be in operation from a private residence.

Recounting the need for the intervention, the MCE said the owner of the residence decided to come for the facility which became a serious headache for them so they decided to build a permanent facility specious enough to accommodate more people and make the work environment conducive as the old one was small and congested.

So through funds from their District Performance Assessment Tool (DPAT), in 2021, the new facility was built.

The new facility at Community 2 offer additional services including child welfare clinic, family planning, antenatal, deliveries, and also general health care.

In a related development, the Assembly through the same DPAT also built a laboratory within the Oda District Hospital.

Madam Adu disclosed that the former place that served as a laboratory was not conducive enough, “even you would see the elderly queuing for laboratory test, and moreover, the Oda Hospital also serves the surrounding districts such as Akyemansa, Birim South, Achiase among others, and so there was the need to build an ultramodern laboratory for them”. She added.

Mr. Ampadu Adjei the hospital administrator at Oda shared his excitement, stating that due to inadequate space in their former office, they were limited in offering certain investigations; hence the new laboratory was indeed a good investment, adding that it has the scan room, ECG room, imaging, and diagnostics which are all very spacious.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive believes it is about time the Oda Government Hospital is given an upgrade to include more services as it serves all surrounding districts.
