Birim South makes progress on Agenda 111 hospital project

The Birim South District is one of the districts with visible evidence of progress on the Agenda 111 program, a massive health infrastructure improvement policy by the government.

With about 60 percent work completion and serious work still ongoing, the contractors are determined to work within the given timeline of completion which is 15th of December, 2023.

The Project Manager, Mr. Avege throwing more light on the project when Ghanadistricts.com interacted with him at the site said with their side of the project, out of 18 structures 7 have been roofed including the two pavilions, pharmacy, administration, reception, laboratory and diagnostic, physiotherapy and the Out Patient Department (OPD).

Most structures have been built hallway with majority of them at roofing level while with workers continue to get very busily working which signifies the commitment to completing the work.

The Ghana Priority Health Infrastructure Project dubbed Agenda 111 is aimed at building 111 hospitals including 101 district hospitals, six regional hospitals in the newly created regions, two specialised hospitals in the middle and northern belts, as well as a regional hospital in the Western Region and renovation of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital.

The hospitals would have facilities such as Outpatient services, including consultation for medical and surgical cases, Ophthalmology, Dental and Physiotherapy and Imaging services, and mortuary.

There are also staff accommodation for medical doctors, nurses and other health workers.

Residents of the Birim South District Assembly currently rely on the Akim Oda Municipal Hospital for their major healthcare needs aside Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) centres.

It is therefore welcoming the ongoing Agenda 111 project would boost access to quality health delivery when completed and in use.
