DCE calls for support for GIADEC

The introduction of Mytileneos Energy and Metals for bauxite exploration in the Apenimadi Community of Atwima Mponua by the Ghana Integrated Aluminum Development Corporation (GIADEC) has garnered significant attention from various stakeholders at the Apenimadi community of Atwima Mponua.

Isaac Kofi Marfo, the District Chief Executive for Mponua, highlighted the government's commitment to job creation and urged the partners to prioritize local employment. He also called for support for the NPP government and appealed for assistance in infrastructure development, particularly the reconstruction of the Kotokuom Bridge.

Mr. Michael Ansah, CEO of GIADEC, emphasized the economic importance of the bauxite deposits in Mponua and Ahafo Ano South West and stressed the need for collaboration with local communities for successful outcomes and sustainable mining that has the propensity to change lives and the livelihood of many in the catchment areas.

He emphasized that the new partner is a credible company with demonstrable experience and a track record of upholding global environmental standards in their operations and their selection is a perfect lead for the execution of block 3A. The CEO commended the President for his relentless support for the realization of GIADEC.

Dimitri Kakarochas, the team leader for Mytileneos Energy and Metals, reassured the gathering that their commitment to Ghana is beyond bauxite mining and pledged timely completion of exploration activities.

Mr Kakarochas expressed his company's commitment to Ghana and assured the timely completion of exploration activities. “Mytileneos would leverage on the existing relations with Ghana over the years and deepen the energy sector through mutual understanding to create equity”, he added. He expressed a willingness to cooperate in a convivial working relationship with stakeholders.

Nana Tabri Gyansah III highlighted the historical context of the mine and urged the partners to establish a cordial relationship with all the communities for a better working environment. He reminded the group to stick to their corporate social responsibilities to develop skilled local labor.

The Omanhene of Mpasaaso, a beneficiary community urged the establishment of a school to develop skilled local labor for mining to increase local economic development that will spur the mining communities to economic freedom.

Baffour Owusu Amankwaatia III commended GIADEC for their performance and urged the partners to employ locals, while also reminding them of promises made to the Asantehene for sustainable mining. He underscored that the execution of block 3A, which involves the development of a mine, and a refinery will increase the local economy and it will transmute the lives of the indigenes. The Bantamahene emphasized the need to uphold cultural values that would build a sense of ownership between the group and the locals.

Hon. Osei Agyei, the deputy CEO, emphasized the importance of community cooperation for a conducive environment in his closing remarks. He charged the gathering to remember the NPP government in making sure development has reached Apenimadi and its enclave.

The event was attended by various stakeholders, including security chiefs, community members, traditional authorities and queen mothers, opinion leaders, politicians, GIADEC officials, heads of departments, media, and other interested parties.
