Asunafo South Water Station Commissioned

Asunafo South District in collaboration with Project Maji and IRC Ghana has commissioned seven water projects at Pafo Nkwanta.

The Assembly and its partners are implementing a 7-year water sanitation and hygiene initiative dubbed “Asunafo South Nsupa Ne Ahotee Nkosuo(ASNAN)”.

This initiative seeks to ensure that every person in the district-households, health and educational institutions has access to safe and sustainable water, sanitation and hygiene services by 2030.

This initiative have successfully furnished seven communities with Town Mechanized Water Systems at Kamirekrom, Pafo Nkwanta, Sikafremogya, Anim, Manhyia No.4, Adwumam, and Nseinua communities

In a speech by Mr Frank Aduse Poku , District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asunafo South lamented on the projects. He said water has become a challenge within the District since he took over.

One notable area which he is working on is community water, he emphasized. He said, Project Maji and IRC Ghana are backing him strongly and are contributing a lot to the success of water projects within the District.

Additionally, He made it known that he is in contact with other non-profit organizations like Safe Water Network who are currently providing community water at Norberkaw and very soon Abuom will also have their share of the cake.

Mr. Aduse Poku congratulated Action against Rural Poverty and Catholic Relief Services for their massive support in terms of community water. He concluded that the community will see more water projects in the coming months.

Mr Jeremiah Atengdem , IRC Representative also explained to the house that IRC Ghana was started in 2017 within Ahafo and has done incredible performance in terms of water projects and toilet facilities.

The Master plan made them identify the problems within the communities and through the intervention of Project Maji some communities have benefited from the water projects.

Nana Agyemang Duah , Chief of Nseinua communities thanked Project Maji and IRC Ghana for the tremendous work done but asked for more water projects so they can reach out to other communities.

Mr Jacob Adade Ntiamoah, Ahafo Regional Ministers Representative, also lamented on the master plan that has yielded better results. He emphatically stated that it is their long term plan that by 2030 water must reach over 600,000 households within the Region. He further explained that just last week a 5 million dollars project was launched to build community water projects which are in the pipeline.

Again, Mr Ntiamoah stated, the Region has laize with Latter Day Saint and IRC Ghana to provide community water for the good people of Tano North Municipal. Saha Global and Safe Water Network are in negotiation to also help in the water project. He concluded that the idea is that lack of water and lack of toilets will be a thing of the past by 2030.

The Project Maji representative stated emphatically that they are 9 years in Ghana. He said they are operating in other countries like Kenya, Uganda etc. He further said that the pay as you fetch system must be used accordingly which will be used when they encounter fault.

The participants of the event included Mr Jacob Adade Ntiamoah, Regional Minister’s Representative, Frank Aduse Poku , DCE for Asunafo South District, Mr Jeremiah Atengdem, IRC Representative, Project Maji Representative, Nana Agyemang Duah Katakyie III, Chief of Nseinua communities and other Traditional Authorities, Heads of Department, the Ahafo Regional information Officer and other dignitaries.
