Speaking to Ghanadistricts.com, the Municipal Chief Executive Nicholas Kofi Baako disclosed that since the Assin North Municipality was divided into into two (Assin North District and Assin Fosu Municipal) all the secondary schools had gone to Assin North with the exception of Obiri Yeboah Secondary school.

But through the efforts of the District Assembly, the Member of Parliament for the Area, and some stakeholders, efforts were put in place to ensure adequate provision is made to establish more secondary schools to take care of those in the municpality.

That discussion, he noted, gave birth to the establishment of Akotiman Senior High at Assin Akropong which is strategically positioned to serve Assin North, Assin Foso Municipal and part of the Eastern Region.

The project being financed by Ghana Gas is providing an 18-unit classroom block with administration and a canteen with some sports facilities.

The MCE revealed that the school when completed would start as a day school and later other important structures would be added to make it a complete boarding school.

However, with the structure nearing completion, the MCE has stated that the process is underway to have the shool commenced.

"We have satrted the documentation; the community would have to write to us, then we would also write to the Ghana Education Service (GES) to be forwarded to the Ministry of Eduication (MoE); so we have started the processes. We're thinking about starting it next year”.

Other new secondary schools under construction in clude Aboaboman SHS at Assin Nyankomasi where a six-unit classroom block funded by the GNPC has been built already and GETFund is also building additional 12-unit classroom block. The Third one is at Akotiman, he added.

Meanwhile, the Obiri Yeboah Senior High, the only remaining senior high in the Municipality after the division is bein relocated to a larger land area with a number of new structures being put up to accommodate the growing number of students.
