AMA boss advocates national conversation on plastics
Chief Executive Officer of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Mohammed Nii Adjei Sowah is advocating a holistic national conversation about the plastic menace which has become an albatross in the fight against filth.

According to the AMA Mayor, his outfit has no jurisdiction to ban the use of plastic in the city hence his suggestion.

Speaking on UTV's Adekye Nsroma Mph me Mpu show Friday morning, the Accra mayor expressed worry that the total number of plastic waste in the sea far outweighs the fish stock in the sea hence the urgent need to find a lasting solution to the menace.

He noted that the management of plastic generally is difficult even in advance cities hence the urgent need for viable alternatives.

The city Mayor also identified attitude as one major problem facing the effective management of plastic since people fail to properly dispose off waste properly.

The AMA alone he said generates 3,000 of the 7,000 tones of waste generated by the Greater Accra region out of the total national figure of 17,000 tones of waste annually.
