New Juaben South Assembly teams up with Sanitation Ministry to clean the Municipality

The New Juaben South Municipal Assembly in collaboration with the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources has embarked on national sanitation exercise to clean up the municipality of filth.

In the early hours of 6:38 am, the Ghana Police Service team and the Ghana National Fire Service started distilling the gutters in front of the central police station and its environs within the municipality.

The assembly’s sanitation workers and the Zoom lion workers were also dispatched to other places such as lorry stations, in front of Oteng houses, market places, and the whole township roads.

The general participation by the public and the shops owners were very low as compared to the previous exercises. This can be attributed to the fear of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On our routine check-ups, some of the gutters were found being filled with waste disposal causing an unpleasant smell.

And also, the movement of cars disrupted the exercises in some of the places such as the main road in front of the central police station and it was suggested that the next sanitation exercises the authorities should consider that inaction to end those attitudes by drivers.

In an interview, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Isaac Appaw-Gyasi emphasized that the Assembly from time to come will have to prosecute all recalcitrant drivers, shop owners, Market women, stall owners who did not partake in the routine sanitation exercise.

The MCE in his statement said indiscipline in society is something that is killing Ghanaians in general, hence the need for us as citizens to clean our environment of filth to make way for this dreadful disease.

“Nobody would have to do this for us as a country, we owe nature a duty to make them clean from degradation and unsanitary conditions. Let’s protect our environment since cleanliness is next to Godliness.” He said.

In attendance were the Municipal Chief Executive Isaac Appaw-Gyasi; the Municipal Coordinating Director, Musah Yahaya Froko; Municipal engineer Mr. Charles Arkoh; Municipal Environmental officer, Mr. Emmanuel Tetteh; Municipal Information officer, Mr. Collins Aikins Akuffo and the Municipal Police Commander, Supt. Raymond Kofi Erzuah.
